AION 2 — August 26, 2026 Update Notes: The Great Rebalance, Server Transfers and Bound Kina

Editor's take

Read the shortest line in the patch first: a minimum cancel time is applied to all skills. NCSOFT's stated reason is to reduce the spread in skill chaining and DPS caused by a player's environment. Translated: the reward for frame-perfect animation-cancelling on a 144Hz PC is being capped, because a phone cannot do it. Everything else in the class section is downstream of that one sentence — when you lower the ceiling you have to raise the floor, which is why all nine classes are handed flat PVE damage in the very same patch.

The second theme is what a support class is paid for. Experienced Counterstrike, Fury and Earth's Promise lose close to half of their party value at level 30, and NCSOFT says out loud that the point is to make support classes stronger at roles other than damage. A raid spot should stop being something you buy with a damage aura. Note that Cleric is the exception that proves it: its debuff and party-buff numbers go up while its party damage-amp goes down.

Templar and Chanter get the only real reworks, and they are the same rework twice. Judgment and Dark Crush stop being reactive punishers that need a stunned target and start triggering off your own rotation — a shield attack, a ranged skill. Punishment stops being an AoE around your feet and becomes a 20m projectile, which matters because it is a three-stage charge: you no longer eat the full wind-up and then watch the target walk away. Spinning Strike goes from 250 MP to 100 with half the cooldown. These are the two classes that had to press a button and hope.

The shield pass is quietly the most durable change here. Every flat-value shield becomes a percentage of your HP — Guarding Seal 30/40/50%, Nezekan's Shield 45/55/65%, Doom Shield a flat 5%. Fixed numbers rot as gear improves; percentages do not. Read it together with the healing cuts of the last two patches: mitigation is being moved onto a scale that keeps up with the content.

Outside the class section there are two things worth more than they look. Kina from six dungeon modes becomes Bound Kina — that is a tap into the tradable economy being closed, not a reward change. And server transfer opens for exactly one week, four hours a night, once per account, with no undo and with your character name taken away and replaced by "@temp" whether the destination needs it or not. If you are moving, move deliberately.

AION 2 — August 26, 2026 Update Notes

TL;DR — the biggest class patch since launch, and it all hangs off one line: a minimum cancel time is applied to every skill, so animation-cancelling stops paying different amounts on different hardware. To compensate, all nine classes get flat PVE damage increases. Party-synergy passives on Gladiator, Templar, Chanter and Cleric are roughly halved. Templar and Chanter get real reworks — JudgmentJudgment and Dark CrushDark Crush now trigger off your own rotation instead of a stunned target, PunishmentPunishment becomes a 20m projectile, Spinning StrikeSpinning Strike drops to 100 MP with half the cooldown. Main-skill lifesteal is cut, every flat shield becomes a % of HP, Theostones get an internal cooldown and dispels no longer strip potions. Outside classes: Kina from six dungeon modes becomes Bound Kina, the Abyss set bonus goes 20% ▶ 40% at 12 pieces, server transfer opens for one week, and a new Daeva Pass runs to September 22.

Translated and annotated from the official Korean update notes published by NCSOFT for the August 26, 2026 maintenance, cross-checked against the official Traditional-Chinese post. Skill, class, dungeon, boss and item names are resolved from our own database rather than the machine translation on the source page. It follows the August 19 notes, which raised Abyss boss stats and PVP contribution for the first time.

[Content & System]

Expedition / Transcendence / Sanctuary

Kina dropped by several dungeons becomes Bound Kina — it still counts, but it can no longer leave your account:

  • Conquest Hard: Fire Temple, Ferocious Horn Den
  • Conquest Normal & Hard: Dying Dramata's Nest, Cradle of Nihility
  • Transcendence: Submerged Life Temple
  • Sanctuary: Abyssal Forge: Ludra

Abyss

  • Artifact occupation and the Abyss Corridor are reset as part of the server rematching. Server matching information is posted on the CM hideout board.
  • Abyss Corridor usage-time information can now also be read from the Artifact UI on the HUD.
  • Failing to match in an Abyss rift zone because there were not enough players now still pays part of the rewards.
  • Abyss boss and Dimensional Core stats are raised again. The figures may be adjusted further — this is the second consecutive week the Abyss has been buffed with no numbers attached.

The Abyss gear set bonus — Abyss Damage Amplification — is raised at every step, and the 12-piece step doubles:

Class Changes

Common — minimum cancel time

A minimum cancel time is applied to all skills. NCSOFT's reason: to reduce the differences in skill chaining, cancel timing and DPS that come from a player's game environment. In practice this caps what frame-perfect animation-cancelling can buy you, which is why the rest of this section reads like a compensation package.

Main-skill rework — Templar

JudgmentJudgment's trigger moves to "when a shield attack skill is used", and PunishmentPunishment becomes a ranged skill so a charge that misses costs less.

Punishment is a three-stage charge skill, which is what makes the projectile change matter: until now the full charge had to land in melee range.

Main-skill rework — Chanter

Dark CrushDark Crush's trigger moves to "when a ranged skill is used", and Spinning StrikeSpinning Strike is rebuilt so the class depends on Dark Crush less.

The KR post puts the Crushing Blow chain on Impactful Crush's Spec 4; the TW post says Spec 2. Spec id 18060040 in the client is the chain-skill spec, so the KR text is the correct one.

Server Transfer

On sale: after the August 26 maintenance until September 1, from [Shop] > [Server Transfer]. Applications can only be filed between 20:00 and 24:00 each day, and each server's in/out quota updates at 20:00.

CostPriceLimit
Base cost1,000 QunaOnce per account
Per character200 Quna per character
Slot expansion1,000 Quna per slot

Example: moving two characters costs 1,400 Quna — but if every free slot on the destination server is locked, two slot expansions are added and the total is 3,400 Quna.

The rules that will actually catch people:

  • Same race only, once per account, and only from one server to one server. There is no limit on how many characters you bring in that one move, and no way to cancel or roll back once it is submitted.
  • Characters must be level 45+ and standing in a town — not in the Abyss, a rift or a dungeon.
  • You must not be in a legion, or have a pending legion application, and you must have no mission in progress.
  • Nothing may be left unclaimed: no items listed or unsettled on the broker, nothing waiting in the shop storage box, no unread mail on the character.
  • Your character name is taken away regardless. Every transferred character arrives as "@temporary name" and picks a new name on first login; if the old name is taken on the destination server, you cannot have it back.
  • Server storage does not travel. Only the expansion record moves — move anything you want to keep into character storage or your inventory first. Kina held in server storage is also left behind; Kina in the cube inventory and character storage moves with you.
  • Quna and Mileage move and are added to whatever you already have on the destination server.
  • A server-limited Daeva Pass or Growth Support that already exists on the destination server blocks that character from transferring.
  • Special pets and appearances bought in the shop transfer; if you already own the same special pet there, you keep the destination one and are paid a Pet Exchange Ticket (Bound) (or a Daeva Pass shop coin if it was a pass-shop pet).
  • The only row marked "does not transfer" in NCSOFT's own 60-row table is the mail block list. Titles, achievements, wardrobe, pets, Theostones, Arcana, Daevanion, season ranking points and season mission progress all move with the character.

Arcana Supply Support

From after the August 26 maintenance until before the September 23 maintenance, Arcana enchant and synthesis materials are sold in [Shop] > [Breeze Trading Company] > [Special].

ItemPricePurchase limit
Superior Training Arcana (Bound)10,000 Kina200 per week, weekly reset, limit counted per server
Splendent Noble Crystal (Bound)10,000 Kina
Noble Crystal (Bound)5,000 Kina

The KR post sells Superior Training Arcana; the TW post lists Ultimate Training Arcana instead. These are two different items in the client — the table above follows the Korean notes, which is what the KR servers get.

Transcendence Arcana Growth Support — extended

The triple-Arcana event from the August 19 patch is extended by seven days: it now runs until before the September 23 maintenance instead of September 16, ending on the same day as the new Arcana shop and the Daeva Pass.

[Other] — Improvements & Fixes

Improvements

  • Race Understanding: the auto-analysis UI gains a Soul Crystal usage setting — checked, it automatically uses crystals usable by any race; unchecked, it only uses race-specific ones. The stop-condition help tooltip is reworded.
  • Mouse cursor lock: in AION1 control mode the cursor can be confined to the client window — [Settings > Combat > Controls > Control Mode > AION1].
  • PC HUD editing: the main target's buff icons can be detached and positioned and sized separately, via the "Edit Buffs" button on the main target UI.
  • Wardrobe: the fusion result list and the "Open All" button appear faster.
  • Shop: Server Storage Expansion Voucher (Bound) and Atreian Pledge of Allegiance (Bound) can now only be bought up to the maximum you can actually expand to; bulk purchase gets a quantity-input popup.
  • Gamepad: a dedicated pad key-binding page appears when a controller is connected — LB/RB switch tabs, D-Pad up/down moves between entries.
  • Growth Support: the entry with claimable rewards is selected first when the popup opens.
  • Settings: a nameplate toggle for your own summons is added, and the network-status option moves under [Information Display > General].
  • Expedition / Transcendence weekly play rewards: the popup now shows the estimated Kina for killing every boss, and the details panel shows how much the Kina reward drops per cumulative run.
  • Neural Frame Fusion is supported as an upscaler under [Settings > Graphics > Optimisation > Quality — Advanced > Upscaler] on Galaxy Tab S11/S12, Galaxy S25/S26, Z Flip7/Flip8, Z Fold8 / Fold8 Ultra and Z TriFold.

Fixes — dungeons and bosses

  • Fire Temple: Kromede's Desire intermittently cancelled a cast and moved straight to the next skill.
  • Consumed Deus Research Base: Overseer Gromkas could be blocked by a player's position and fail to move or fight properly.
  • Consumed Deus Research Base: Prideful Atiel's Ring of Fate can now be avoided with invulnerability skills such as Cleric's SalvationSalvation — the opposite of last week's change, which removed that option.
  • Anguish Hideout: the Verteron sealed dungeon could not be entered.

Fixes — quests, UI and client

  • To Morheim: Asmodians could use the teleport portal as soon as the quest was accepted; it is now unlocked from the "Go to Morheim" step.
  • High Priest's Fafnite: the transformation was not applied during the Altgard quest.
  • Replying to, blocking or reporting mail sent by a deleted character now prints the correct system message.
  • A Transcendence trait popup printed a certain entry twice.
  • While in the Abyss Corridor, the world map now shows which corridor you are in.
  • Teleport portals and hideout portals were not shown correctly on the world map, minimap and transparent map.
  • In a party dungeon with the other race, targets were marked as hostile on the minimap.
  • The Arena of Solitude / Arena of Cooperation UI showed a 5-player party matching message.
  • Brawler: the AP gauge was drawn as an MP gauge when editing the mobile HUD.
  • The shop preview did not show the dye applied to the outfit you are wearing.
  • The interaction menu did not work on PURPLE TALK messages in the mini-chat UI.
  • The [Settings > Voice] options could not be changed.

We'll keep working to provide better service. Thank you.
