New Aion 2 Dungeons: Askran, Atiel and the Legacy Noiran

Editor's take

The August 5 patch was, by any honest reading, about nothing: some dye, some patterns, a fix list. But patches ship the whole client, and the client is a talkative thing. The data tables did not gain a single row this week — and the localization file gained 164 strings that put names to boss kits which had been sitting in those tables, unnamed, for weeks.

That is the interesting part. Askran and Atiel were already in the game files as anonymous stat blocks. Now we can read what they actually do, and both look like proper raid encounters rather than another tank-and-spank.

The usual caveat, and we mean it: none of this has been announced. Datamined content gets delayed, reworked and cancelled all the time. Names change, numbers change, and a dungeon whose maps are in the client today can sit there for six months. Read this as a look at the drawing board, not a release schedule.

Where this comes from — everything below is read out of the shipped game client (build of August 5, 2026), by diffing its localization files and data tables against the previous extraction. None of it has been announced by NCSOFT, none of it is live, and any of it can change or be cancelled. Numbers that are not shown are numbers we do not have: the mechanic text exists, the tuning does not.

The short version

  • The August 5 client changed no table data at all — not one new row across 351 tables — but added 164 localization strings.
  • Those strings are names and mechanic descriptions for bosses that were already in the files as anonymous stat blocks.
  • Askran: a four-colour energy fight with player-side coloured shields and a petrify phase.
  • Atiel: the Lepharists’ discarded Artificial God, with a full Unique weapon line for all nine classes already named.
  • A frost boss and a poison boss, each with a complete stacking-debuff kit.
  • Legacy Noiran: a party dungeon with four maps shipped in the client and no data rows yet.

Askran — the four-colour fight

Askran
Askran, from the in-game housing statue asset — the only render of him the client ships.

Askran reads as an energy-management encounter rather than a damage race. The boss cycles four energy colours, and the raid has to be standing in the matching shield to take anything from them:

Boss abilityWhat the client says
Crimson Energy / Azure Energy / Green Energy / Purple EnergyFour separate energy casts. Three of them have a matching player-side shield; the fourth — purple — does not, which is the detail worth watching.
Red / Blue / Green Protective Shield"Absorbs the red aura of Askran as energy source." One shield per colour, each granting absorption of that colour only.
Petrify"Becomes Incapacitated and immune to Askran’s damage." You cannot act — and he cannot hurt you. A survival window, not a punishment.
Containment ProtocolNamed like a phase transition rather than a single hit.
Petrifying MineGround hazard that presumably applies the Petrify state above.
Morphic World ("the changing world")The most raid-boss-sounding name in the whole kit.
Soul Chain / Circle of Rooting / Rooting ChainThree separate movement-locking tools.
Aerial Bombardment / Bombardment / Firebomb / Energy Bullet / Adhesive ShotA heavy ranged suite — this is an artillery boss as much as a melee one.
Chain Explosion / Circular Explosion / Ground Explosion / Shatter GroundFloor-based AoE patterns.

The absorption wording is the giveaway. Askran’s aura is described as an energy source the raid uses, not just damage to survive — so the shields are probably how you build whatever resource the fight is scored on. Four energy colours and three shields also means one colour you simply cannot absorb.

The client also carries a cosmetic tied to him: Askran’s Silence (Skin: Helm).

Atiel — the Artificial God that failed

Atiel
Atiel, from the "Statue: New World God Atiel" housing asset.

Atiel comes with something Askran does not: a story. Two in-game documents spell out what he is.

Artificial God Project: Atiel

Development of the artificial god Atiel has reached 99% completion. No anomalies detected during the process.

Functional testing within the given world. Immutability, omnipotence, omnipresence, eternity, divinity… All attributes passed within average parameters. However, as an artificial lifeform, it has been determined to lack rational consciousness. Project Atiel: terminated.

A new project will be initiated based on these results. Project name: Transcendent God.

The second note, an Atiel Experiment Document from the Lepharist Research Center, is an energy requisition:

Energy usage rate is 83.1%… expected to max at 97.4% when current reserve energy is converted and added. Risk of failure in ultimate Artificial God operation. Request transfer of Drana energy from each lab to headquarters.

The new world of the Lepharists will surpass this broken world, for its new god.

So: a 99%-finished god the Lepharists switched off for lacking a mind, powered by Drana siphoned from every lab they run — and a successor project called Transcendent God that the document conveniently stops short of describing.

What he does

MechanicWhat the client says
Strengthen Body"+5% Attack and Combat Speed per stack." A stacking enrage on the boss — "Increases Atiel’s stats."
Lamenting Mark"Will be killed instantly if mark stacks. Deals AoE Damage if killed while mark is applied." Dying with it on hurts the raid, so this is a dispel-or-spread check.
Explosion"Explosion around the target at 5 stacks that deals damage to players." A five-stack timer on a player.
Magically Engineered Bomb"Deals AoE Damage after a fixed duration."

And one line of NPC dialogue that reads like a fight tutorial:

"Use a special skill that staggers Atiel before he jumps, kru!" — an interrupt check, delivered by a Shugo.

The loot is already named

This is the strongest sign that Atiel is a headline encounter rather than a side boss. The client carries a complete Unique weapon line under his name — one weapon for every class, in two variants each — plus a full accessory set. None of these exist as item rows yet: the names are there, the items are not.

SlotItem nameFor

  • Each piece exists in two variants, which in this game normally means an Elyos and an Asmodian version of the same item.
  • There are also Genus collection entries for both races — Atiel Melee Weapon, Atiel Sword and Shield, Atiel Ranged Weapon, Atiel Weapon and Atiel Accessory — so the set plugs into the collection system rather than being a loose drop.
  • A housing statue, Statue: New World God Atiel, is already a real item in the client (that is the render above).

A frost boss

A complete cold-stacking kit arrived with no name attached to the boss itself — only to the mechanics. It reads as a fight where the raid manages a warmth resource against a chill counter:

EffectWhat it does
WarmthRestores Warmth over time and supplies Warmth to nearby party members — a carried resource you share.
ChillStacks continuously; inflicts Frost at maximum stacks.
BittercoldSignificantly reduces Move Speed and limits actions.
Cold MagicDamage over Time for a fixed duration.
Winding FrostDamage over Time to nearby allies — a spread mechanic.
Ice SpikeCreates ice spikes and applies Root after a fixed duration.

Warmth being shareable and Chill stacking toward a hard freeze is the classic shape of a positioning fight: cluster to share warmth, spread to avoid Winding Frost. Those two demands fight each other, which is usually the whole point.

A poison boss — and a gunblade one

Two more kits landed with names for their skills but not for their owners.

Poison

EffectWhat it does
PoisonDamage over time — and at 3 stacks it becomes Poison Explosion.
Poison ExplosionCreates a Poison Zone on the spot after a delay; standing in it deals damage over time.
  • The owner’s skill list matches: Blight Eruption, Toxic Rain, Ground Explosion, Rapid Slam, Crush, Exterminate, Draw (a pull), Shockwave, Teleport and a finisher called Coup de Grace.
  • Three stacks turning into a persistent floor hazard means poison is a positioning tax here, not just a damage tick.

Gunblade

  • A separate, very differently flavoured kit: Fire Gunblade, Gunblade Laser, Frontal Pierce, Sword Dance, Time Bomb, Aura Discharge, Noxious Discharge and Scatter Poison.
  • Bladed firearms and a timed bomb put this closer to the Lepharist technology theme than to anything Balaur.

Legacy Noiran — a dungeon with maps but no data

  • The client ships four maps under /Game/BG/SharingMap/Party/LegacyNoiran_G_01 through _G_04, with matching effect containers.
  • The Party path marks it a party dungeon, and four numbered maps is the shape this game uses for four stages or four difficulties.
  • Its boss is named: Mad Klominster (광기의 클로민스터).
  • The Dungeon table has no row for it. Art and level geometry are in; the entry, the rewards and the tuning are not. That gap is usually measured in months, not weeks.

Already live: things that quietly got renamed

Not everything in the diff is unreleased. Some of it changes names you will see in game today:

WasIs now
Third Unit Commander MinasaraThird Unit Commander Minasara
Third Unit Commander KarkotiThird Unit Commander Karkoti
Cursed MarkCursed Seal Stone
Brainwashed GravaraxCultivated Gravarax
Server TahavathaTahabata
Server KasakaKasika
Server SIESiel (and every server short name moved out of ALL CAPS)
  • Title descriptions now spell out their [Owned Effect] block as well as the equipped one — the stats themselves did not change, only the text that was hiding half of them.
  • Three Templar specialisation tooltips were pointing at the wrong effect ids and now point at their own.

How much of this should you believe?

  • High confidence: these names and mechanic descriptions are in the client, in three languages, right now. We are not guessing at translations — this is NCSOFT’s own English text.
  • No confidence on timing: nothing here has a date. Content has sat in these files for months before shipping, and some of it never ships at all.
  • Numbers are missing on purpose: where we quote a value (+5% per stack, 3 stacks, 5 stacks) it is because the client states it. Everything else is untuned or unreadable, and we would rather say so than invent it.

We will keep reading the client after each patch and report what changes. If any of this goes live in a different shape — and some of it will — you will get the correction here.
