Story

"As I told you before, I'd rather you be the one to see me off." Hadala could not shake off an uneasy feeling as she handed over another letter from Derk. She thought Derk looked like a man handing over his last will and testament before heading off to die. "Actually, he looked kind of sick last time." A child living in Safe Haven missed "Mr. Derk", who was always kind and fun to play with.He used to spend time by the water, saying it was a secret spot he and his friend visited often. Some days, he would silently stare at the memorial that had suddenly appeared there one day. Now, this unfamiliar Daeva visiting the spot claims to be Mr. Derk's friend. Sensing a strange familiarity with the Daeva, the child mentioned that maybe Galorik would know where Derk went. "He's too kind for his own good." Galorik had offered Derk a home in the village again and again but Derk refused every time. Lately, he had even stopped doing the errands he used to enjoy completing around town and rarely leaves his tent.Galorik did see him get roughed up trying to deal with some thugs recently... He pointed toward Derk's tent, trying not to show his growing concern. "I want to be of help to the villagers who accepted... someone like me..." Knowing his body is nearing its limit, Derk headed to the Den of the Dead.When he saw the face of his friend, coming to fulfill the promise you made, he was finally able to close his eyes peacefully. Galorik mourned the loss of such a kind soul. As Derk wished, all the Kina he had saved up was donated to Safe Haven. Derk and Hugo were the reason the Hugo Mercenaries came to be. The beginning of it all. May the two now find peace together in Odyle's embrace.
